Therapy for Teens

Navigating Emotions, Stress, Identity & Life Transitions

Many teens today feel overwhelmed by academic pressure, social expectations, anxiety, or emotional ups and downs that are hard to explain. Some are struggling with confidence, relationships, or motivation, while others are navigating ADHD, autism, learning differences, or feeling misunderstood in environments that don’t quite fit how they think or process the world.

I provide a supportive, collaborative space where teens can feel understood, build practical coping skills, and develop greater confidence as they move through this important stage of life.

Working with Teens & Parents

Teen therapy is centered on creating a space where adolescents feel safe enough to be honest, understood, and themselves. Many teens struggle to open up when they feel judged, pressured, or misunderstood, so building trust and connection is an essential part of the process. My primary focus is supporting teens as they navigate emotions, relationships, school stress, identity development, and the challenges that come with growing up.

While teens are the primary focus of therapy, parent involvement can play an important supporting role. I provide periodic parent check-ins when helpful to share general themes, offer guidance, and support families in understanding how to best help their teen outside of sessions. These conversations aim to strengthen communication and reduce tension at home while still protecting the teen’s sense of privacy and ownership of their therapeutic space.

The goal is to help teens feel more confident, regulated, and understood, while giving parents practical insight and reassurance along the way.

How I Support Teens

Every teen experiences adolescence differently. Some are navigating anxiety, social pressure, or academic stress, while others feel stuck, disconnected, or unsure how to express what they’re going through. My approach adapts to each teen’s personality, needs, and strengths rather than expecting them to fit a single model of therapy.

I commonly support teens who are experiencing:

  • School pressure, motivation struggles, or executive functioning challenges

  • ADHD, autism, learning differences, or feeling different from peers

  • Anxiety, stress, or emotional overwhelm

  • Social difficulties, friendship stress, or feeling misunderstood

  • Identity exploration and growing self-confidence

  • Big emotions, shutdowns, or difficulty regulating feelings

  • Life transitions, family changes, or periods of increased stress

Many teens I work with are bright, thoughtful individuals who have learned to mask or push through challenges without fully understanding why things feel harder than they seem for others. Therapy helps them build insight, emotional regulation skills, and confidence while developing tools that actually work for how they think and experience the world.

When Teens Need Extra Support

Some teens go through periods where challenges feel especially overwhelming, whether related to emotional distress, behavioral struggles, substance use, or difficult life circumstances. During these times, both teens and parents often need steady, experienced support to help restore a sense of stability and understanding.

My background includes working with adolescents in residential treatment, school-based programs, and outpatient settings, supporting teens navigating complex emotional and behavioral challenges. This experience allows me to meet teens with patience, structure, and compassion while helping families move through difficult moments without shame or judgment.

Whether a teen is feeling stuck, acting out, shutting down, or struggling to cope, therapy focuses on building safety, insight, and practical tools that support meaningful change over time.
